Wa'ahila Ridge Hike

I wanted to go on a long hike. I found the Wa'ahila ridge hike that was not to far from my apartment.  So I thought I would just walk from my place to the trail head and then back to the apartment. In all the walk/hike would be about 12 miles long. That sounded like a good idea ...

However as I was on my way to the trail head I realized that this might not have been the best idea. In the first photo you can see the tall buildings off in the distance and can tell that I am now higher than the tops of some of them; I started this walk next to them. In the second photo you can see some of the hill I still have to walk up just to get to the trail (it does go higher, it just turns).

Alright I made it to the woods at least. Not much farther and I will make it to the trail head.

Made it.

The trail is a much nicer walk.

On my way up.

Now why would this trail be called "lower Wa'ahila" if there was not an "upper". With that in mind clearly this is not really the end of the trail. So I "might" have continued on past this sign, funny thing is there is another sign  past here right out of sight that says trail is not maintained, continue with caution.

A picture of the ridge next to me.

There are so many diffident types of trees here.

With most of these ridge trails the higher you get, the muddier it gets.

Mushrooms

Diamond head from a far.

Like I said, it gets muddier as I go.

A picture looking back at the trail.

Here is the ridge I hiked.

On the way back I decided to take the Kolowalu trail instead of the way I came. Some where along the trail I realized I was just walking down a dry-ish creek bed. I tried to back track but there was no other path to take so I went back down the creek bed hoping it was the right way while trail on my GPS went a different direction.

I found this monstrosity of a tree along my way.

It was starting to get a little darker so I was really hoping I was on the right path.

Turns out the creek bed was the way to go and I made it back to civilization before complete night fall.

Its been great hiking with you. What did you think, let me know in the comment section down below. And join me next time because there will be dancing!

  1. I have wondered why you don't often tell me about what you put in your blogs as they happen to you...I was thinking it was because you liked making me read and figured I'd like the pictures. Now I'm thinking that it's just b/c you don't want to be yelled at...Have fun, BE SAFE, WEAR SUNSCEEN...I don't ask much of you!! Good thing for you, I'll forget to yell at you by the next time I talk to you...
