Walk Honolulu

When my parents were visiting we took a walking tour of the Honolulu. We took a bus to chinatown then walked where we wanted from there.

Here is a map of the 3.4 miles we walked.

Turns out we did not take any good pictures of chinatown so this first picture is with Aloha Tower in the background.

The Aloha Tower was a lighthouse that is considered one of the landmarks of the state of Hawaii.

The next few pictures are taken from Aloha Tower. The tower was opened on September 11, 1926 at a then astronomical cost of $160,000

There is a lawn on top of that building!

At 10 stories or 184 feet of height topped with 40 feet of flag mast, the Aloha Tower was the tallest structure in Hawaii for four decades.

Decorating the palm trees with Christmas lights!

Then on our walk we saw some fishes.

I looks like we were snorkeling but this is just what you see when you look down at the boat docks by Aloha Tower.

"This memorial is dedicated to the men and women of the state of Hawaii who have served in the armed forces of the United States"

I did not actually take any good pictures of the Memorial on this day but you can see some of it in the background of this picture.

This is the front of the State Capital building.

This is "inside" the Capital building.

If you watch Hawaii five-0 you have seen this guy. This is a statue of King Kamehameha.

This is the post office. The inside was also used as a LOST filming location.

This is the Missions Homes Museum which was closed when we got there.

It was a nice walk with many great things to look at. I did however leave out my pictures of Iolani Palace as that is going to be my next post.

Home Sweet Home

As many of you know I have just moved back to Kentucky. (It was always my plan to move back after a year or two.) I was sad to leave Hawaii but I'm excited to spend time with my friends and family here! I'm also excited to go to many places around Cincinnati and Kentucky! If you follow this blog you also know how far behind I am in posting my Hawaiian adventures. I plan to keep my blog posts going and cover all of my time in Hawaii. After that I might continue to post some of the exciting places that I go around here.  Mahalo for visiting my blog.

I packed up all my belongings...

...and flew over the Pacific while the sun was rising.

My first view of the continent.

This is a view of the entire Bellingham, Washington airport.

Now I get to watch the sunset from a plane in Denver Colorado.

There was a storm which caused some delays on the run way.

Luckily some people didn't mind picking me up at 1:00 in the morning. Although the car was a little cramped with my surfboard.

Swiming with the Birds

My parents got back to Oahu so our exploring continues. We are starting this day off with a trip to Hanauma Bay for some quality snorkeling.

The lights in the parking lot here are not only solar powered but also wind powered. Sadly they don't work that well.

You have to walk down that crater wall to get to the beach but it's worth it.

This little guy was just hanging out on the beach.

My parents snorkeling in the bay.

My dad prefered bird watching over fish watching.

This is what he saw.

This is what we saw. This is a hawaiian lagoon triggerfish.

...Two Fish...

...Red Fish...

...Blue Fish"

Here's a sea cucumber.

View walking back up the ridge.

This was my view when I go to the top...

...this was my parents view.

Did you know Hawaii gets communications from the mainland by wires that are laid in the ocean. The first cable stretching from San Francisco to the Hanauma Bay

To end the day we went to Kaka'ako Waterfront Park to watch the sun set.

I feel bad for kids that never get to go sled riding in the snow. But they were having a great time with their cardboard.

There are cats everywhere on this island.

A sunset cruise boat out enjoying the view.

It's almost gone.

The sun's down but there is still plenty of light to keep fishing.

This is just a weird fruit like thing we found.
