All right so I know I have done a few Snorkeling blogs already but this time I saw some better marine life so I had to post pictures. Plus I'll even tell you what kind of fish they are and their Hawaiian name (Well for most of them.) This swim was right outside the rocky walls at Shark's Cove.
Convict Tang - Manini
Just checking out the fish school.
Couldn't find this one's name.
This is a spotted fish. That's not the name but it does have spots on it and I can't find it's name either.
A view of the beach from where I'm snorkeling.
Fourspot Butterflyfish - Lauhau
Whitespotted Surgeonfish - ´Api
And who can tell what's in the background on the left? I didn't see it when I took the picture.
Orangespine Unicornfish - Umaumalei
Moorish Idol - Kihikihi
These next two creatures are hard to see, (Maybe not as hard since I put circles around them.) do you know what they are? ...
It's two octopuses! I was super excited to see them. I left this area for I guess a half hour and when I came I was able to find them about 40 feet away. Then I came back only about 3 minutes later and they were gone.
Here is a video of one of them reaching out its tentacle to the other.
Achilles Tang - Pāku´iku´ī
Who's paying attention; What type of fish are these?
Christmas Wrasse (male) - ´āwela
The big guy in the picture is a Redlip Parrotfish (male) - Uhu pālukaluka
Green Sea Turtle - Honu
Here's a couple turtles just swimming around.
White-spotted Sea Cucumber - Loli
A bunch of Mullet - ´ama´ama
A Medusa Spaghetti Worm surrounded by Echinometra Sea Urchins.
When your fingers start to tingle I guess it's time to get out of the ocean, and watch the sunset.
Okay, so the first unknown fish looks like some kind of parrot fish, but I can't be sure.
ReplyDeleteAaaannnd... I'm jealous that you got to see octopi! They weren't around when I was there. By the way, that may not have been a tentacle reaching out... well maybe a tentacle, but not the type of tentacle you were thinking of. That looks like the mating ritual!!
Good snorkeling, Buddy! Great pics and video; wish I could still be there.
That Christmas fish is freaking awesome!
