Na Pali Coast Hike

Time for some hiking and camping along the Na Pali coast.

"The Na Pali Coast is a very special place. The pali, or cliffs, provide a rugged grandeur of deep, narrow valleys ending abruptly at the sea. Waterfalls and swift flowing streams continue to cut these narrow valleys while the sea carves cliffs at their mouths. Extensive stone walled terraces can still be found on the valley bottoms where Hawaiians once lived and cultivated taro." - Hawaii State Parks web site

The terrain of this hike varied. Here we have a nice rock laid path.

There was a lot of hiking up and down only to be followed by hiking back up again. But the views from the tops were worth it.

Most of the hike was along a cliff; wall on one side and nothing on the other.

Sadly it was very foggy on the hike so visibility along the coast was bad.

Saw this little guy just hanging out along the trail.

We didn't have to use this so that was good.

The Coast was amazing looking. Although it did not photograph well because of the fog.

There were red ants all over along the trail.

Made it to the Hanakäpï‘ai Stream.

Right past the stream was this beach. The waves were big and the currents were strong so getting in the water was a bad idea.

There were so many stacked rocks it was almost errie.

Just past the beach is the designated camping area. With all the amenities you could ask for. Here is the bath room. I never used it. But I did use the stream to take a bath in that night, It was really cold.

As we continued walking we had to cross this steam a few times. It made sense to follow the stream since we were going to check out a water fall farther up the stream

Hanakäpï‘ai Stream waterfall is about 300 feet tall.

Kris was not real excited about this stream crossing.

We found a spot to put up the tent. I wish is was this light when we found the spot though. This picture was taken the next morning.

We had many friends to keep us company at our camp.

There were particularly big waves while there.

I really liked this stack of rocks. Mainly because I created it.

With a fresh night of sleep it was time to head back to the car. It would have been nice to hike the whole 11 mile trail but there was a lot more to do on this island and not that much time.
