Continuing our tour of Kauai we stay along the north shore and do some cave exploring.
Exploring this cave was just standing at the water's edge and looking, so not real exciting but it gets better.

See, at this cave I could actually go in... the excitement is building
"Warning! Leptospirosis, Health Hazard... Possibly polluted with Bacteria." See now it's getting exciting.
We're going down there.
It's called the blue room because the water and sunlight make everything seem blue.
It was a little tight swimming through.
We made it without being eaten by the flesh eating bacteria that Topher said was in the water.
After all that excitement it was time to head to town and get some grub. I had a giant omelette it was alright but needed more bacon.
Hanging out at Hanalei Bay for a while.
The wave were rather large...
...but it didn't stop this guy on his Sea doo. And yes that is a guy hanging on to the back.
It was nap time for this guy.
Headed south, driving over one of the many bridges on Kauai.
Just a couple nice trucks.
Hanalei Valley is so good looking it should be a painting.
Oh look at that.
Kilauea Point Lighthouse is currently being restored. Which is why it looks like there is a bounce house around it.
Most of these birds were there. Sorry you can't see them in the picture.
Our next stop was Salt Pond Park and beach. We set up our tent for a night of camping on the beach. I did not get a picture of this because as I was enjoying a ono plate of chilli mac the Civil Defence Sirens went off. I was not concerned as they quickly went off and this wouldn't be the first time I heard them go off on accident. (Like the time they went off at 4:00 in the morning.) Then as I looked around I noticed people packing up stuff in quite a hurry. I decided maybe I should investigate. I started to walk over to a family and was told "This could be the Big One". Turns out a tsunami warning was in effect and everyone had to evacuate to higher ground. The family I talked to did not pack up hardly anything, they each got a hand-full of stuff and went for the car, leaving behind bins of stuff and tents. This convinced me we should go... somewhere. (Though we packed up the tent first.)
A park ranger told us about a shopping center that was on higher ground. Since we were there I wanted to go see if people in Hawaii buy the same thing before a tsunami warning as people in kentucky buy before a snow storm warning. They do, plus a lot more water. Everyone had a case of water in their cart.
This is what we got.
Luckily for us, someone Topher works with lives on Kauai. She knew we were on the island and gave us a call. Her house was not far and she invited us over for the night.
Like I said her house wasn't far but when you take the scenic route as directed by me, it didn't seem very close.
Our accommodations were a little nicer than a tent that night.
And we were on much higher ground!
Next up, the place we would have slept.
