Pineapples, Flowers, Waterfalls, Turtles, Oh my!

Day 3

Day three started out with coloring some nice pictures for our fridge.

Our first stop on day three was the Dole Pineapple Plantation. The tree you see in this picture is a rainbow Eucalyptus tree and it is naturally this colorful.

He's either in deep contemplation or time out.

Here is another Hawaiian Hibiscus. This one is in the Dole flower garden.

The Monstera is a naturally holey plant.

Seemingly everyone's favorite tropical flower, the Bird of Paradise.

This really is how pineapples grow. Did you think they grew on trees?

Took a train ride to see the fields and learn about pineapples in Hawaii.

Look at these bunch of pineapple heads.

We have now entered the worlds largest maze.

She looks like she knows were to go.

I'll be honest we wondered around in a couple of circles.

Just thought this was a sign you don't see everyday. I do hope they find their tortoise. Although with their New York area code they may have expanded their search a little two big. (I blurred the last digits in case you were wondering.)

Our second location of the day was Waimea Valley including Waimea Falls. One of last partially intact ahupua‘a on O`ahu. Waimea Valley consists of 1,875 acres and has been a sacred place for more than 700 years of Native Hawaiian history. An ahupua`a, was one way they used to divide land up. They were normally wedge-shaped land sections that ran from the mountains to the sea. The size of the ahupua`a depended on the resources of the area. A main resource being fresh water.

One main attraction to this valley is the falls; Which you are allowed to swim at the bottom of. However when they say they close at 5:00 they apparently really mean 4:50. So don't cut it too close if you want to swim.

If the falls look familiar to you, perhaps you are remembering them from such shows as Lost or Full House.

After a very short swim in the water, we began our walk back through the valley's gardens. There were lots of great plants and birds to see now that we were not rushing to get to the falls.

Someone really liked all the flowers that fell from the trees.

When you find something really weird looking, obviously the best thing to do with it is...

...put it on your nose.  :*)

I think the walk was just too much. Or maybe it was his disco themed renditions of a hula that did him in.

Can't roll through North Shore without stopping to say aloha to some sun bathing sea turtles.

This is my buddy Oakley. We hang out whenever I come by.

We watched the sunset even though it was cloudy.

After all that excitement it was time for some food... with a big fish in the historic surf town of Haleiwa.

Finally got back to the apartment for bath time and sleeping. Conveniently when you're a kid you can do both at the same time.
