Day 4
Day four was Sunday so we started off with church at St Augustine by the sea.
A picture of the priest's garments for Mass.
After mass we began our trip to the East side of Oahu. First stop on our drive was to see Mokoliʻi Island, also know as China-man's hat.
Next stop, snack time at the Macadamia Nut Farm. Here they give free samples of their deliciously flavored Macadamias.
Not only do you get to sample nuts you can also crack them open yourself and eat them. They do taste good although eating them right after having caramel glazed ones they leave something to be desired.
While the kids liked the nuts I think they were more entertained by the chickens that were all over.
It's always important before eating to go find a bush to wash your hands in.
Lunch at a food truck featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Have to call our dads on fathers day!
Next stop, the Byodo-In Temple in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. The Byodo-In Temple is a non-practicing Buddhist temple which welcomes people of all faiths to worship, meditate or simply appreciate its beauty. It was used in the show Lost for a wedding scene.
This is a traveler's Palm. It's called that because walking travelers could easily find up to a half gallon of water in a branch after a rain. Oddly enough it is not actually a palm, it just looks like one.
Gong at the temple that you can ring for good fortune.
Largest wood carved Buddha outside of Japan.
We did not make it to the beach till the evening, but that did not stop the kids from jumping right in. This is Kahlua Beach. Said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world... (country?... I forget, lets just say people think it is really beautiful.)
The winds are strong in this bay which bring in a lot of kiteboarders.
She had to walk along the line in the sand. Which was not a problem until the line started doing loops.
We found this guy on the beach. He was a little crabby after I poked him so we could get this picture.
Another day that we squeezed every last bit of fun out of.
The nightly carrying of the kids.
More cool pictures...I'll tell your sister I'm seeing your pics before hers...which is sad...oh well! Also, will you ring the big gong for me?? I could use some better fortune!!
